Materials of Construction for Stainless Pressure Vessels

HOLLOWAY's stainless fabrication projects feature the finest construction materials and meet ASME code standards.

Dependable Construction Materials. Reliable Vessels.

The selection of materials for ASME pressure vessels must be code approved. A metallurgical engineer usually specified the most economical materials at the lowest cost and/or lowest maintenance cost that will be satisfactory under operating conditions.

There are many factors supported by experience and laboratory test results that must be considered in selecting the most suitable materials. They include the following:

  1. Corrosion Resistance
  2. Strength Requirements
  3. Cost
  4. Availability
  5. Ease of Fabrication
  6. Cost of Future Maintenance
  7. Equipment Flexibility.

Expert Material Selection Analysis

Corrosion, which is defined as the deterioration of metals by chemical action, is probably the most important consideration in selecting materials. A slight change in chemical composition, or temperature of a given environment, can significantly change the corrosive behavior of a given metal.

Backed by decades of in-the-field and in-the-lab experience, HOLLOWAY AMERICA's master craftsmen will select precisely the right material for your application. Because costs of materials vary significantly, our designers evaluate material cost versus other factors such as corrosion, expected life of equipment, availability of material, replacement cost, and code restrictions on fabrications and repairs. With the large variance in cost of materials, the designer should consider the factors prior to selecting a given material.
